I understand that there was a riff between Marty and the SD GM, but is Norv Turner who has had such success in the NFL really an upgrade?

I don't think this idea hurts or helps SD. Let's face it, Marty's a good coach. However, he couldn't win the big one. Norv Turner, on the other hand, is a sucky coach, but he installed a system in San Diego that worked for Marty. He's an offensive minded-coach, and in reailty, has two good defensive coordinators in Ted Cotrell and Ron Rivera. I would defenitly not call him an upgrade, but this coaching staff is starting to form into pretty good shape, as many people, myself included, had written them off as the laughing stock of the NFL. Turner is a big ?, but the talent on O is there and they have good defensive minds with enough players on D to make things happen.

Technically Rivera is only the LB coach and some guy from Minn is the D-coordinator. But yeah, they have the talent and will probably get better this year with Rivers being in his sophmore year as a starter. All the talent in the world won't help if your coach is still a question mark.

OH yeah, I'm well aware about that with Rivera. But, Cotrell is good and Rivera is a huge help. And for the record, SD's strength on D is at LB, so having Rivera there helps.
