With news coming down that he was in line to be traded to Tampa Bay, Adam Schefter is reporting that Jake Plummer is instead deciding to retire rather than going to the Bucs. Denver would have gotten Tampa's 4th round pick
London Fletcher is set to sign a deal with the Redskins, according to the Washington Post. The fun will be in seeing how badly Danny Snyder overpays for him. Are the Redskins going to the Super Bowl with this signing, Bryan? I kid.
The Dolphins have shown interest in Joey Porter.
Packers GM Ted Thompson said that he is definitely not actively shopping Aaron Rodgers and that we "shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet". This, of course, is GM speak for "we're already shipping Aaron's stuff to California."

Fred Smoot was drafted and played in Washington for some time and the team dumped him over personal reasons, I doubt Snyder reaches out for him and gives him a 2nd chance. Not to mention, Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers are their starters and their are plenty defensive backs in the Draft. Not the greatest move IMO.
As for Green... He's an incredibly effieciant passer who has led the Cheifs offense to some promising seasons and showings in the past year. With LJ getting the ball 3 plays out of 4, it's easy for Huard to look good, but it'd be stupid for the Cheifs to invest in him.
Granted they shouldnt invest in Green, but who's played the best for you? Who's the most experienced? Who's got the intangibles? Who's going to teach Croyle more? Trent Green has all the qualities. Dont let one season spoil the next three. Keep Green.
Also, Shelton Quarles might not play this year due to an injury he's been playing with for some time. If he has surgery, which would be a prevention type thing, he's not playing in '07 which will have Barret Rudd starting in the Middle for Tampa. He's the type of player who can make plays, but 6 yards down field. You want a hit and drive type linebacker. With Ryan Nece at Left... It'd be intelegent to snab a Linebacker this year.
As for Brad Johnson... He's an intellegent passer whos got the leagues 5th best efficiancy rating All-Time. He knows Tampas system and he is quite the mentor. Tampa would do wonders by signing him back and allowing him to teach Simms and Gradkowski some stuff. There is nobody out there better to take over your team mid-season if need be than the guy who won you a Superbowl.

According to Adam Schefter, the Niners have signed Nate Clements for 8 years, $80 million. Of course, NFL contracts are monopoly money, so it's highly unlikely Clements will actually make that much. I haven't seen anything on how much the signing bonus would be yet.

According to a league source with knowledge of the negotiations, the Patriots are about to make the splash of free agency by agreeing to a contract with Ravens linebacker Adalius Thomas, considered one of the top players on the market.
“Thomas is done there,” said the source, a rival executive.

The Florida Times-Union reports in their Saturday editions that tight end Kyle Brady has agreed to a contract with the Patriots.
The report indicates Brady's deal is a two-year, $5.3 million package, with a $2 million signing bonus.
"My whole thing was to go out and find a team that wanted me and would show that by the contract they were offering," Brady told The Times-Union. "Plus, a team that's within reach of a Super Bowl, and this one always seems to be among the AFC elite."
Brady visited with the Patriots on the first day of free agency. He is projected to fill part of the void left by Daniel Graham's departure

The Patriots plan to sign Miami restricted free-agent wide receiver Wes Welker to a seven-year offers sheet worth $38.5 million. Once Welker signs the offer sheet, the Dolphins will have seven days to match it. If they decide not to, they would get the Patriots' second-round draft pick.

Scout.com's Adam Caplan is reporting that running back Sammy Morris has reached a contract agreement with the New England Patriots. Morris also received interest from the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, and Philadelphia Eagles.
According to a league source, Morris signed a four-year deal worth $7 million with New England. He will receive $5 million over the first two years of deal.
The Patriots originally courted Morris the last time he was a free agent in 2004. His decision came down to a choice between Miami and New England. He opted for Miami at the time. This year, New England showed the most interest in acquiring his services.
Morris' signing adds depth behind second-year running back Laurence Maroney and third down specialist Kevin Faulk. The Patriots also have fullback Heath Evans who signed a deal to return to the team yesterday.
Morris is a "high character" guy who is expected to be a perfect fit the Patriots, a league insider told PatriotsInsider.com. If true, it proves that the Patriots are continuing their trend of signing free agents who will fit in well inside the locker room.
Scout.com and PatriotsInsider.com will bring you more on the Morris story soon. Morris spoke with Scout.com insiders recently about his pending free agency and was looking forward to the process.

First, I love that there are Pats addicts on this board!
THomas will be a phenomonal addition to the Pats. I still cannot believe they signed him. There certainly was not much pre-signing hoopla around this one.
Would love to know what Coach said to him at Pro Bowl. ;D

I think the Wes Welker thing was well worth a 2nd and 7th rounder. Also, there is some talk about the Pats possibly going after Darrell Jackson of the Seahawks, who is supposedly up for grabs for a second or third round pick.
